Wilted Salad

Here is a very wonderful salad that we have been making, it is super easy and so tasty.

What you need:
4 minced garlic cloves
1/2 to 1 cup of vinegar (red wine, apple cider, or balsamic, We have used all three, but balsamic was used on this salad)
spinach or specialty salad mix (we normally use spinach but had the salad mix on hand)
mushrooms
Salt and pepper to taste

all you have to do it slice the mushrooms, and put them in a bowl with the garlic, salt, pepper and vinigar and let them sit for about an hour to soak up the flavors.  Then pour the mixture over the salad, take a spoon and kind of pound and stir the mixture.  The pounding is to kind of break down the salad and get the flavors mixed into it.  Let this mixture sit for another hour or so and eat.  You can eat right away but the salad will not be as flavorful.  As a note if it sits in the fridge over night it gets really wilted and looks kind of like cooked spinach but the flavor is amazing the salad just does not look as nice.

Sourdough Bread part 3

So I tried making the rolls again today with bigger balls and they turned out as I expected, I am so happy.  They are a lot more fluffy and they look nicer too.  My wonderful Husband said he did not think there was anything wrong with the other ones, lol.  Here are some pictures.

Sourdough Bread part 2

So the starter was ready today and I got going right away and made up 2 batches of bread with this recipe.  I made a lot of this bread last winter before I got too pregnant with my son and before it got too warm to cook in the house and be comfortable, it is an easy recipe to follow and makes very yummy bread.  I decided to try and make one batch into rolls for Easter dinner with my family.  I thought it would be fun to try something different.  The other batch is bread.

So I started writing this yesterday (as it is now 12:44am)  I am a little sad to say the rolls did not turn out as well as I had hoped, I am going to make another batch tomorrow to see if I can improve how they turn out.  I think the problem was that I did not make the balls big enough for the rolls.  So cross fingers they turn out better.  Here are some pictures from my bread baking day.

Sourdough Bread

So I am getting back into making bread today I have started my sourdough starter to make 100% whole wheat sourdough bread.  The starter it is so easy to make here is the steps:

2 cups whole wheat flour
2 cups warm water
1 tablespoon yeast
*combine all, cover with cheese cloth and  let sit at room temp for 48 hours.  It should bubble up a lot, make sure to stir several times.

Here is what mine looks like after 1 hour, I have already stirred it down once.  I am keeping it in the oven because we keep our house at a cooler temperature than most.  I will show pictures of the bread making once the starter is ready in 2 days.
